Hide the parangs! It's May 13th~!! [May. 15th, 2008|09:12 am]

[aput83]
I'm kidding. Now we don't have racial violence in our country.

Everyone's living as one. The sun is shining. The people are frolicking around and skipping out for their lunches at some bistro or fast food joint.

Mixing and mingling without a worry or care.

DAP and UMNO didn't hold victory marches in Selangor, so everything's fine.

No more "Melayu balik kampung" being screamed in the streets, no more "Cina balik China" being yelled as well. Except in Parliament by Noh Omar last year.

When someone asks me what I know about May 13th, I tell them what I've come to understand from the many, many political books I've read. There's a mention in most of them, one being the memoirs of Tun Dr. Ismail.

If anything, 13th May 1969 in Malaysia is a bitter reminder that racism and race based political movements can and will lead to violence, especially if the economic gap between these races goes unattended.

Let's pray it does not happen once more. But then again, we now have HINDRAF bringing up the same agendas...

A few days late, but... [May. 14th, 2008|03:02 pm]

9 months of breastfeeding!. I'm so proud of the both of us! Some days are more difficult than others, like when he's distracted and will only nurse for 2-minute spurts and crawl away and then come back ten minutes later to nurse another 2 minutes...and on and on and on till he gets cranky because he's gotten himself hungry ;p (can you tell today is one of those days??).

An awesome thing is happening now, though. He seems to recognize the "milk" sign! I've been signing "milk" to him at every feeding while saying "nenen", and now he responds with a strange whimper/giggle sound whenever I do it. It only happens just before nursing while I sign "milk"!!!

Eventually we'll start on other signs but I figured this is the most important one for now. He's starting to wave bye-bye now, too, but mostly when he wants out of a situation - he waved bye to the nurse at the pediatrician's office the other day and to our neighbor when he was at her house because he finally wanted to go home after being there for ages (without mommy and daddy, and it was his choice...he followed her home! He's infatuated by her).

Nine months! Here's to another nine, hopefully :D

A GPS device is pretty cool. [May. 14th, 2008|09:20 pm]

No, i didn't get myself one of those GPS devices that you place in the car for navigational purposes, but i should, at the rate im getting lost or forgetting my direction. But yes, haha, i FINALLY started using my Sony GPS Picture Tagger as i would like to call it, i got this baby last year on the 4th of January 2007, yes i still remember the date, for some odd apparent reason. I got it free when i bought my camera, and it's selling for RM 799 if im not mistaken. Yes, free. WOOTZ for buying electronics from Singapore. It's way cheaper than here plus u get tons of free gifts.

GPS thingy.

So this GPS picture tagger, as i was saying tags each picture that i take together with my camera, all i gotta do is sync the time together for both gadgets, and walla. When i plug the camera and GPS thing to my laptop. All i gotta is tag the pictures myself, and yes. The Sony program that came with this funky cool gadget, links to Google Earth. And i get to see where each picture was taken, the exact location that is. Why didn't i start to use this gadget earlier i don't know. I'm just so glad that i started to play around with it. Here is one of the pictures that i took, and played with the map view.

I was at Red Box yesterday karaoke-ing with a couple of friends, when i started to use it. It works wonders i tell you. I cam whored all the way back home and took about 10 pictures, and tiny red dots showed up on the screen when i loaded it to my computer. So yes, i plotted myself on the way home. LOLZ, so no it doesn't work like a GPS navigational system. It just shows where am i, and what time i took that particular picture.

If anyone wants to go to Red Box, u don't need an address, here's the EXACT LOCATION OF IT, thru satellite scanning of course.

From Shah Alam to Puchong [May. 14th, 2008|08:48 pm]

[eiki]
Hi guys, I really need your help here :)

I've an internship training at SP Setia Training Center near Tesco, Puchong. I need to know which bus I should take from Shah Alam to Tesco, Puchong. I Googled it a while ago and found out that there's a bus T66 that goes there (RapidKL) directly from Section 14, Shah Alam to Tesco but now it doesn't make sense since the trunk buses (Txxx) usually have 3 digit numbers at the back. Edit: Forgot to say that this is probably due to the change of ownership - the T66 route that I found on the net was used during the year 2006 to 2007 I guess, and since the ownership was changed the routes are all scrambled up now & they've gotten more confusing.

So yeah, help please?

Also it would be very helpful if you could also tell me when the bus leaves in the morning (my training starts at 9.20am) & how long it usually takes to go from Shah Alam to Tesco :) Thank you so much for any help! Can you tell I haven't used the RapidKL bus transportation system much haha - I only take the buses around UM & Mid

The weekend was good, and it was probably what I needed after everything. Things seem a little clearer now, and whatever problems, issues, drama whatsoever that I had seemed to have settled itself a little more, and I'm hoping that things only get better from here on.

I would post up pictures, but since I'm currently laptop-less thanks to a bullet to the screen, having 455 pictures to upload and edit isn't exactly a joyful thing to do, so I'll probably do it when my new baby gets here. Did I mention that I woke up to my mother sending in the purchase order for my new laptop today? I don't know what I did to deserve this stroke of good luck but thank you god, thank you karma, and thank you mamsie, you guys have been great <3

Now that the PD weekend is over, I have two more days of work before I leave for Bangkok- new territory, free travel and lodging, cheap exchange rates, strip joints and man breasts... what more could I ask for right now?

:)

My brother did the 4 second McD chant today (two all beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed bun) in 3.3 seconds and he won a free burger- damn son!

Fragments: Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder [May. 9th, 2008|11:45 pm]

Has anyone read this? Would you recommend it?

Explore effective alternative approaches to improving the lives of those diagnosed with attention deficit disorder! This remarkable new book offers fresh perspectives on ADD/ADHD. Even more important, it provides new direction for sufferers, introducing an ecologically based lifestyle that focuses on hands-on interactive learning. Fragments: Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder shows how to use environmental education and activities such as organic farming, community service, mission work, art, yoga, meditation, and spirituality to bring about positive change in people diagnosed with ADD or ADHD.From author Amy E. Stein: "This book is about life. It is written for those who think they have no hope, who struggle with life, with decisions, with addiction, and in search of themselves. I do not believe traditional psychotherapy or medication are solutions for those of us who fall under the label of ADD or ADHD."Candidly written by a woman who, at age 25, was diagnosed as "a textbook case for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder," this insightful book examines: the pitfalls of traditional psychotherapy and medication for those diagnosed with ADD/ADHD how an interactive hands-on learning environment can markedly improve the educational experience of ADD/ADHD kids how an organic, holistic approach can benefit those diagnosed with ADD/ADHD the correlation between agriculture and ADD/ADHD and the impact of eliminating pesticides and increasing fatty acid intake in the diets of sufferers how incorporating spirituality and faith into ADD/ADHD sufferers' lives can help to add discipline and bring greater satisfaction and much more!Five helpful appendices give you easy access to environmentaleducation resources, agricultural resources, a sample agricultural curriculum, a sample ecology curriculum, and an environmental art curriculum.

Yesterday i finally hung out with U-nee ! It's been forever since i've seen her, so yes..... I was supposed to head to La Bodega with Dr. Funk, but we ended up going to Alexis in Bangsar Shopping Center instead, it's the best Alexis outlet there is, seriously. It beats the one in the Gardens, Bangsar Telawi, and Great Eastern Mall, so yes. Sat there for a few hours, eating, and chatting. They ruined my diet, but nevermind it was only for 1 day, urgh, instead of the salad that i consume on a daily basis, i had a sirloin steak sandwich instead, but screw it, it was superb, not to mention sharing a pavlova and a tiramisu cake, oh god, it was so eff-in good. Yes, the sliver of tiramisu cake that i put in my mouth, sent me to heaven. Oral explosions. Fireworks in creamery, blissful tingling tongue sensation, yep, that bit of cake made me shut up and slouched down on the chair, and i gave one heavy sigh. Then i farted a bit, kidding, no farting involved. It was just that good, or maybe it's been too long since i had "real" food, instead of stupid green leaves.

Yeah, so it was really fun hanging out there, great environment, and awesome service like ALL the other Alexis provides, but this outlet has a slightly different menu though, a wider selection of food. Well, i would give this place 9.5/10. the missing 0.5 points deducted because the tables in the smoking section were kinda small. Apart from that, flock there people. Fill the place, unless when i wanna go, then i better have a seat, or else imma be flaming pissed ! Damn, i want cake now ! *sigh*

Hey guys,

I'm considering getting my dad to send me a PS3 or an Xbox 360 from Malaysia. What I want to know is...

How does piracy work on these consoles?
Will my dad need to get it mod-chipped for me?
I've heard that the PS3 can't run pirated games, is this true or is there a way around it? How about with the Xbox 360?
How much will it cost approx to ship it from KL to Melbourne, Australia?

5am, still awake. damnit. It's been 9 days since i've started my diet, and it's going along pretty well i must say, i've dropped 3 kgs already. That's a huge improvement, but the cost of it, terrible. I've been stuffing myself silly with vege's, fruits, and healthy crap. Even my poop is changing colour, ok that's a bit too much info to share here.

Hahaha, so yeah. It's going great, i just had a fat free yogurt, cuz i was hungry a while ago. Im gonna turn green in a couple of days, or grow a cauliflower outta my arm pit or something at the rate im chomping on them greens. Gyming helps as well, i did yoga a few days ago at Myoga, and thanx to that bitch of a friend whose name im not going to mention who said it wasn't tough, I woke up the next day all sore and aching, his name is Adrian by the way, lol. It was fun, but a bit funny, since i don't consider myself a yoga person, or Ashtanga yoga thingy that i participated in, the only good bit that i really enjoyed immensely was the free flow of illy espresso coffee at the lounge area. Sorry Adrian, coffee still beats you. lolz, just kidding ! you're a great instructor !

Im still counting down the days when i fly over to the land of tea and scones. 13 more days, and it's seriously approaching fast, considering i started planning this trip last December. Sigh, Oh, and i've been a clubbing kaki of late. It's been 5 weeks in a row at marketplace, yes this awesome super cool club in..............yeah somewhere in KL, i don't know my KL well enough, and Kate Monroe was spinning last Saturday, and it was super awesome ! i love her, and she's pretty cool and her music is amazing, her transition from tune to tune is flawless, so yeah, she rocks. Thanx to her i became a podium freak. Yes, i was on it for 2 hours. She was that good, she mesmerized me with her music, and to make it perfect all i had to do, was push the lala and ugly people far and away from me, now that's perfection *grins*. Kate looks like an older version of Emma Bunton i must say, without the British accent of course.

Photobucket
Me and Kate, so Emma like isn't she?

Me and Kate again, she gave me some lovin'

Dr Funk, Kate, me and Adrian, too bad this is a little blur, oh well it's taken with my phone

Oh god, it's 5 minutes to 6am. I so gotta crash, have to wake up in a couple of hours to attend the autumn/winter Levis 2008 collection show. Did the similar thing today with Dockers, fun. Free food and free stuff, it's being held at the Eastin hotel tomorrow, while Dockers held it at "The Apartment" in KLCC yesterday, glamness all the way baby. *yawns*

why can't i ever just get my life sorted?
i feel like i want to throw up or jump off a cliff or something.
this semester goes down the tubes, possibly permanently damaging my career prospects. even if i do retake a course and fix my grade the old ones are still on the transcript
and i think of times when i could have done more but i was just too tired or i couldn't stop clicking around on the internet or looking at porn.

i told my fucking advisor that if i overload a fucking semester then i crash and burn no matter how much i tell myself that im going to get things sorted this semester. since the beginning of my college career (1999) ive learned that overloading myself just doesnt work. sure i can do that extreme intense shit now and then but i cant keep it turned on a hole semester. to pass the first certification exam i had months of extreme kamikazee studying, but if its too much i just get distracted and get nothing done. and of cource i am an adult so i should know how to manage my time and shit and the advisor is just going to tell me that this is how hard it is in the work world and blah blah blah

do they even have add in india?

and i cannot change my career AGAIN. i'm pushing 30 and still an undergrad. if i was one of those revolutionary add guys like richard branson or lawrence of arabia then id be well on my way by the time i was 25.

why didn't i just refuse to do that course load? because i am desperate to graduate, thats why

if i had planned everything differently, using information that i could not have known from the beginning of the semester then things might have been better. of course i don't think i'd have passed the first certification exam

ive had golden semesters now and then where everything goes so brilliantly. i am just at the right level of challanging material that i can stay on top of it, rule my classes (in awe of my struggling peers) and know exactly what i need to do to pass my lighter ones.

i just need to get this sorted. it's been too long

Could you forgive yourself... [May. 5th, 2008|01:21 pm]

If your child perished in a car accident because you didn't put them in a carseat?

The #1 cause of death of children aged 1-4 in the united states is motor vehicle accidents:
http://www.statisticstop10.com/Causes_of_Death_Toddlers.html

At least in the US carseats are the law. I'm glad for that. Even then a lot of people don't use and install it properly. But in Malaysia? HAH! There are babies just roaming about in the car. Not just in the backseat, sometimes in the front passenger seat too!

I was not in a carseat, as I'm sure most Malaysian people in my FList can relate to. But now we know better. We know for a fact that carseats saves lives. I know they are pricey, but to me carseats are a non-negotiable MUST-HAVE baby gear. If you can only afford one pricey baby gear, you can live without cribs and strollers. Get a carseat.

Now, some people do get carseats but after their child meets the maximum weight limit, they put the child in the car with just a seatbelt on (or, commonly in Malaysia, no seatbelt even). Watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azgBhZfcqaQ

I'm proud to say we just bought a Graco Nautilus convertible carseat for when Aqil outgrows his current rear-facing carseat (recommended on the site link at the Youtube video).

A friend of mine told me this story when I was newly pregnant and it is forever in my mind:
Her father and stepmother had just had a baby. They were out for a short drive, and less than a mile out they got into an accident. They only had a few bumps and bruises. The baby flew out of her stepmoms hands, out the windshield, and landed on the road. She died on the spot.

There are a few factors in this story that get to me: they were only going for a short drive (like barely even down the road) and the parents survived with only minor physical injuries.

I'm sorry if my standing on a soapbox is annoying anyone, but this issue just rubs me the wrong way. How can a parent put their child's life at risk for want of a simple thing like a carseat? :(

Gotta go, Aqil just woke up! We're going out for groceries in a bit (with Aqil safely strapped in his carseat on the way there, of course ;D ).
